Where: Quebec City
When: October 10 &11, 2019
The 2019 Canadian Council on Ecological Areas (CCEA) annual national workshop and AGM will be held following the Canadian Parks Conference in Quebec City. It is being hosted in partnership between CCEA and the Pathway to Canada Target 1 Accounting Working Group (PAWG). The focus of the workshop is a practitioner level deep dive and training on the use and application of the Pathway to Canada Target 1 Decision Support Tool for assessing areas against pan-Canadian standards for protected areas and other effective area-based conservation measures (OECMs).
The Decision Support Tool (DST) and associated guidance is based on a tool originally developed and published by the CCEA that was informed by practitioners through previous CCEA workshops. The original CCEA tool has been collaboratively revised and approved for use by Pathway jurisdictions, and members of the CCEA and Nature Conservancy of Canada to support jurisdictions in assessing if an area contributes to Target 1.
The 2019 workshop will:
- Provide practitioners with detailed, hands-on training on the application of the guidance and tool using case studies to help foster understanding on how to apply it.
- Learn from other practitioners on the practicalities of applying the DST.
- Give practitioners the opportunity to provide additional feedback on the application and utility of the DST and guidance, to help inform PAWGs further enhancements to enable consistent application of the DST and subsequent reporting by all users across Canada as we collectively work towards achieving Canada Target 1 and beyond.
- Provide practitioners with the opportunity to inform and offer the CCEA feedback on its 2020-2030 strategic priority objectives and outcomes that will guide the work of the organization over the next decade.
